Free Flamenco Workshop at TAMIU

For the third year, intermediate and advanced students of flamenco are invited to a free two-day workshop with master performer Rogelio Rodríguez at Texas A&M International University.

The workshop will be held at TAMIU in the Student Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday June 8 with a lunch break from 12 p.m. to 1:30 pm and from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Sunday June 9. Attendees must be at least 13-years old and have at least two years of formal dance training.

Rodríguez, who has performed with Charo, Jerry Lewis, Dom De Louise and others, will instruct the class in choreography and proper technique for footwork, arms, castanets, rhythms and palmas or rhythmical clapping. He is a native Laredoan and has trained with Nana Lorca, co-director of the Ballet Nacional de España, José Greco, Luisa Triana and many others.

This workshop is presented by TAMIU's Department of Fine and Performing Arts (Dance Program) and is provided in part by funding from the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Class size is limited and anyone interested should contact Bede Leyendecker at 326.2625 or email bleyendecker@tamiu.edu to register. University office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The University will be closed Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day.
