Graduation is filled with pride and satisfaction for a job well done. Belva González, nursing lab supervisor and teaching assistant in Texas A&M International University's Dr. F. M. Canseco School of Nursing, has many things to be proud of this year. This May, she graduated from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi and received the Outstanding Student Award in the Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner program.

In addition, González was given a special award at the Canseco School of Nursing Nurses' Pinning Ceremony. The entire graduating class of TAMIU nursing students honored her for excellence in teaching and coaching.

Dr. Susan Baker, director of the Canseco School of Nursing, said that the pinning ceremony was a time of celebration for students, faculty and staff.

"We are obviously proud of our graduates and it was touching to hear their comments about Ms. Gonzalez. She is an asset to our school and will be an asset to the community where she practices," said Dr. Baker.

Other awards given at the ceremony included naming Anna Alicia Jiménez as the student-selected Border Nurse, and Lorene Dickey as Border Pioneer Nurse of the Year. Zulema Ramírez was given the Academic Achievement Award. In addition, Baker said the students gave the entire staff and faculty of the Canseco School of Nursing an award to express their appreciation of their hard work and dedication.

"We're really like a close family here," said Baker, "Students and faculty all work together to help students reach their goals and become outstanding nurses."
