Just like summer temperatures, Summer Session I at Texas A&M International University is also setting records with enrollment 20 percent over last summer.

Barbara Lunce, University registrar, said Summer I headcount this year is 2,232, compared to 1,857 during Summer I last year.

"This is the highest enrollment increase we have ever seen during Summer Session I," said Lunce, "The increase is due to the collaborative efforts of the enrollment management team working closely with local and area high school counselors and the addition of more courses this summer."

Although all student categories experienced an increase, the growth has been especially strong between two major student groups, Lunce said.

"First-time freshmen enrollment saw a 100 percent increase over last year. Our concurrent enrollment of high school students also increased by 40 percent," she said.

Lunce said that although numbers are preliminary, Summer Session II registration is already seeing a 20 percent increase, with approximately 1,475 students registered to date, compared to 1,222 last year.

General registration for Summer Session II is Monday, July 8 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Classes start Tuesday, July 8. Late registration ends Wednesday, July 10 at 7 p.m.
