TAMIU Unveils Student Magazine 'Reflections,' Friday, June 28

Texas A&M International University students now have a public outlet for their artistic expression with the debut of the University's literary and art magazine, Reflections, scheduled Friday, June 28 from 11:30 - 1 p.m. in University's Writing Center, located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, room 217.

The 56-page magazine includes original artistic student submissions ranging from poetry and prose to renderings and photography, with perspectives on art and life as diverse as the University's growing student population. The publication's name arose from an all-student contest.

Sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta (TAMIU's English Honor Society), The Bridge (the University's student newspaper), and the College of Arts & Humanities- Reflections came about through the tireless devotion of its all-student staff and faculty sponsors, said student editor Elvira Mante.

"Every day my mind was working on ideas of how to create the magazine; it became sort of an addiction," Mante recalled, noting her and the team's collective struggle to bring Reflections to light. She said she believes the magazine's name is not only synonymous with, but is student artistic expression.

University president Dr. Ray Keck said he commended the students' efforts and choice to share their gifts.

"This was a tremendous undertaking and we are honored by tour students' decision to share their talents with a greater community. Having a University literary and art magazine is yet another indication of the University's growth and development as a major regional University," Dr. Keck said.

The June 28 debut will serve to recognize contributors to the debut edition. Copies of the magazine will be available.

Additional copies of Reflections will be available throughout the University campus, at its bookstore in the new Student Center, and at B. Dalton Bookseller in Mall Del Norte.
