This Fall, students at Texas A&M International University will be able to select their own customized e-mail addresses. As part of planned upgrades to TAMIU's e-mail system, all students will create new customized e-mail IDs by Saturday, September 14, 2002.

Lakshmana Viswanath, director of TAMIU's Computer & Telecommunications Services (CTS), explained that rather than having assigned e-mail IDs, which often contained cumbersome combinations of letters and numbers, students can select an ID of their choice.

"Students can now customize their e-mail IDs and pick something that's related or relevant to them at their own convenience. The process is very simple and fast, and personalized IDs should be a real value to students," said Viswanath.

Students will be able to pick an e-mail name of their choice on a first-come first-served basis, by going to any computer lab on campus, picking up User Reference Memo 013 (URM) and following the instructions. Two hours after completing the process, a new TAMIU e-mail account will be created. CTS will delete the old e-mail addresses on September 15.
