Hein to Lead TAMIU Advancement Efforts

Laredoan Candy Hein has been named vice president for institutional advancement at Texas A&M International University. Hein assumes her post with the University on Oct. 1.

Dr. Ray Keck, TAMIU president, said Hein brings remarkable experience to the position along with a lifetime of Laredo involvement and betterment.

"Candy's name has long been associated with all the great collaborative efforts we citizens pursue to ensure a better life: education, community service, philanthropy. Her responsibility, and mine, is to communicate to the citizens of Laredo all the wonderful programs and opportunities now available for students at our south Texas University, and to invite all segments of our community to partner with us as together we make real the dreams of education and new life," Dr. Keck said.

Hein described working for the University as a homecoming.

"The University figured prominently in my growth and development as a leader and educator. I had the honor of working for Laredo State University during its formative years, an experience which I cherish greatly. In a way, I feel that I'm coming home to the University and I relish the challenge that this position provides and look forward to helping the University to secure the resources it needs to grow," Hein said.

Hein comes to TAMIU after an eight-year association with United Independent School District as executive director of the Orange School Support Team and former director of the Alexander Magnet School for Health and Sciences. Prior to that, she was chief executive officer from 1987-1994 for United Day School. From 1980 -1986, she served as assistant to the vice president for administration at the former Laredo State University (LSU).

She holds a BS in Business Education from the University of Houston and an MS in Occupational Education from the former Corpus Christi State University. In addition, she holds professional certificates in mid-management/school administration and superintendency from the former LSU and TAMIU.
