Momayezi Named Dean of TAMIU College of Arts and Humanities

Dr. Nasser Momayezi, Texas A&M International University professor of political science, has been selected as the new Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities.

Dr. Ray Keck announced this week that Dr. Momayezi would begin his new post immediately, bringing to a close a national search.

"Dr. Momayezi's service to the College and vision for its future greatly impressed our Search Committee. I agree with their appraisal and know that his leadership will help to take the College forward and help it to grow and prosper," Dr. Keck said.

For his part, Momayezi said he is looking forward to the challenges ahead and appreciates the confidence placed in him by his peers and Dr. Keck.

"We have a remarkable faculty here, all of whom are committed to helping our students to realize their higher education dreams. I am looking forward to continuing to develop and refine our undergraduate and graduate programs to best meet the needs of our students. I am honored by the confidence placed in me by the Search Committee and Dr. Keck and am eager to move the College further still," he explained.

Momayezi also said he also plans to continue teaching his Constitutional Law course.

"I believe that keeping active in teaching will continue to keep me in touch with student and faculty needs and concerns. My students know this is my favorite course to teach and I want to continue to do so as long as is possible," he said.

Momayezi joined the University faculty in 1994. He holds his Ph.D. in Political Science from Texas Tech University and his MA from Eastern New Mexico State University. His BA was earned at the National University of Iran.

Prior to joining the University, he was a member of the faculty at Laredo Community College where he held posts ranging from instructor to chair of the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

His research interests include international relations, Middle Eastern politics, minority politics and democratization.

He is the author of numerous journal articles, including publication in International Studies, The Journal of Conflict Studies, Southeastern Political Review, Latino Studies Journal and others. Most recently, he authored Texas Politics: Individuals Making a Difference.
