TAMIU Names Dr. Dan Jones as New Provost

After an exhaustive national search that attracted 50 candidates, Texas A&M International University has selected Dr. Dan R. Jones of Houston as its new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Dr. Jones, currently dean of University College at the University of Houston -Downtown, will occupy his new position Jan. 1, 2003.

"We are happy to announce that Dr. Jones will be coming to TAMIU," said TAMIU President Dr. Ray Keck, "He was selected for his experience, his academic attainments and his way of discussing and approaching challenges. Dr. Jones is very thoughtful, very reflective, and yet decisive. "

Dr. Jones holds his Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Iowa (UI). He also holds an MA in American studies and an MA in English from UI and Rice University, respectively. A BA in in English and BJ in magazine journalism were earned at the University of Texas at Austin.

He has been part of the UH faculty since 1985, where he has served a variety of posts including professor, chair, associate dean and interim dean.
