New students will have an opportunity to get a head start if they attend one of the Orientations offered by Texas A&M International's Office of Student Development in January.

Orientation for freshmen, transfer students and graduate students will be held on Wednesday, January 8 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center. International student orientation will be held Thursday, January 9 from 2 to 6 p.m., also in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center.

Gabriela Mendoza-García, associate director of student development, said orientation will help students learn about the University and offer tips for succeeding.

"Orientation can be very useful for anyone who is coming to TAMIU for the first time. In addition to all the information that will be available, students will have the opportunity to meet folks who, like them, are here for the first time. Before the first day of class you might already know people," said Mendoza-García.

For more information, please contact Gabriela Mendoza-García at 326.2280, visit offices in the Student Center, room 124 or e-mail gabym@tamiu.edu. University offices are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The University will be closed Friday, December 20 through Wednesday, January 1 and will re-open Tuesday, January 2 at 8 a.m.

General registration for the Spring 2003 semester will be held Friday, January 10 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Classes begin Jan. 13. Late registration will continue through Jan. 17.
