More than 40 student organizations are available at Texas A&M International University, allowing students to contribute to the growth and development of the University, the community, their fellow students and themselves.

Sport enthusiasts can join the Judo Club, the Future Fitness & Sports Teachers club (FFAST) or the Twisters Dance Team. Music lovers can enjoy the Guitar Club, or the Music Club, which strives to expose students to a variety of musical genres. Academic clubs include the History Club, the Political Science Association and Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honors society.

Gabriela Mendoza-García, associate director of student development, said the organizations help students feel more connected to each other and to the University.

"Our student organizations are very active. At any major University event, such as graduation, you'll see Student Ambassadors lending a hand. During this past Fall semester, the Student Coalition for Democracy and Human Rights brought Jennifer Harbury, a human rights activist and lawyer on campus to discuss human rights violations in Guatemala. The History Club, along with the Daughters of the American Revolution chapter in Laredo hosted a forum on the Korean War, where Laredo veterans shared their experiences," said Mendoza-García.

She invited all students to get involved in campus activities, saying it will enrich their University experience and help them grow.

"A student organization is a place where students can have fun doing something they enjoy, while learning about themselves, the subject of the club, and how organizations work. There are valuable lessons to be learned, and new friends to be made," she said.
