DSI's Distinguished Service Award Presented to TAMIU's Dr. Lunce

Texas A&M International University professor of Computer Information Systems Dr. Stephen Lunce was selected to receive the Decision Science Institute (DSI) Distinguished Service Award for 2003 in recognition of his extraordinary commitment, leadership, and service to the organization at its Southwest Region meeting in Houston recently.

Dr. Lunce has been an extremely active member of both the Southwest Decision Science Institute (SWDSI) since 1990 and national DSI (since 1989) and has published over 35 papers in the regional and national conference Proceedings of DSI. He has served as a reviewer, discussant, or session chair at almost every national and regional meeting since 1991, and often performed all three functions for the same meeting.

Rising to a leadership role in SWDSI, he served as program chair and vice president-Programs in 1997. He followed this as president-elect in 1998, and assumed the role of SWDSI president in 1999.

Lunce has served DSI on the national level, representing SWDSI on the Regional Activities Committee (1999 - 2003) and as a member of the DSI Doctoral Consortium Faculty (1998, 2000).

He became a regionally elected vice president of DSI in 2001 and is finishing up a two-year term on the DSI board of directors. He was initiated into the Decision Sciences Honor Society, Alpha Iota Delta, in 1990 and served on its Liaison Committee (1991-2000) and was just named committee chair for 2003-2004.

He has been a member of the University's College of Business faculty since l992. He earned his Ph.D. in business administration with a major in Information Systems, and minors in Computer Science and Research Methods from the University of Texas at Arlington. In addition, he holds both an M.B.A. with a concentration in M.I.S., and a B.A. in History from The University of Dallas. He is a Certified Computing Professional and a Certified Disaster Recovery Planner.

Lunce's primary fields of research include those in managerial issues concerning disaster recovery and contingency planning, deployment of technology in developing economies, A.I. applications in managerial decision-making, expertise and expert identifications, innovations in M.I.S. Education, strategic information utilization of information and historical perspectives of M.I.S.
