TAMIU Guitar Ensemble Performs at LPO Concert Monday

Texas A&M International University's Classical Guitar Ensemble will make a special appearance at Monday's concert by The Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra at the Laredo Civic Center at 7:30 p.m.

The Concert, "Viva México!" is a tribute to Mexican classical and contemporary orchestral music. Richard Kilmer will conduct the program to include compositions by Galindo, Marquez, Moncayo and Revueltas.

The TAMIU Classical Guitar Ensemble was a recent recipient of the One Level Category (Outstanding/Superior) Award at the first-ever State College/University Guitar Ensemble Competition, sponsored by the University of Texas at Brownsville.

The Guitar Ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Gilberto Soto, associate professor and chair of the University's department of fine and performing arts.

Tickets for the LPO performance can be purchased in advance by calling 727.8888 or at the door. Admission is $20 person or $5 for students presenting University or student ID.

University office hours for the Spring Semester are from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Beginning May 16, University Summer hours will be from 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday. The University will be closed on Fridays.
