TAMIU's Cass Named Associate Provost

Texas A&M International University has appointed Dr. Jeff Cass as associate provost.

Dr. Dan R. Jones, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said Dr. Cass's experience figured prominently in his selection.

"Dr. Cass brings a wealth of experience and insight to the position of associate provost. In this new position, he will be an indispensable member of the administrative team that helps make good things happen at TAMIU," said Dr. Jones.

Cass, who has been a part of the University's faculty since 1991, holds his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). His M.A. in Comparative Literature was also earned at UCSD. His B.A. in English and German was received at the University of Dallas.

He has published in the areas of Romanticism and Victorian Literature as well as in the area of cultural studies. His publications have appeared in a number of professional journals including Dickens Studies Annual, Papers on Language and Literature, ANQ and The Journal of the Association for the Interdisciplinary Study of the Arts.

In addition to his teaching and administrative duties, Cass is also director of the University's Advanced Placement Faculty Fellows and serves on TAMIU's Executive Council.

Among his academic honors are his selection as University Scholar of the Year, 2000-2001 and as recipient of the Texas Scholars Award 2002 and School Bell Award, 2002.

A former president of the University's Faculty Senate, he has served on many University committees and community service organizations. He is a past Board member of the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra, Regional Advisory Consortium (Region 11), Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and the Community Action Agency.

Prior to joining the University, he served on the Laredo Community College faculty and the UCSD faculty.
