TAMIU Spring Commencement Friday Evening, May 9

Spring Commencement Exercises at Texas A&M International University will be held Friday, May 9 at 8 p.m. in front of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library (also known as the Green).

Over 275 candidates for graduation are expected to participate in the combined ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students.

Daniel Hernández Joseph, Consul of Mexico in Laredo, will provide the Commencement address.

Additional program highlights will include comments by Distinguished Student Scholar Fuzhan F. Parhizgar, B.S. in Biology candidate, and presentation of the University's Scholar of the Year Award.

Hernández Joseph holds an M.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. His B.A. was earned at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. In addition, he has attended the Instituto Matías Romero de Estudios Diplomáticos of the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Mexico City.

He has been Consul of Mexico in Laredo since August 1999. Prior to Laredo, he was director of migration issues at the Bureau for North American Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Mexico.

He is the author of numerous publications including "The Wall Street Journal and the External Debt of México and Peru: Application of a Method of Press Analysis," published in Cuadernos de Divulgación, Segunda Epoca, Universidad de Guadalajara; "Diego Rivera and the Mexican-American Community," in Times of Change: Diego Rivera and the Revolution; and "Mexico in the U.S. Newspapers" , Expansión magazine.

University office hours during the Spring semester are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Effective May 15, University summer hours will be from 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Offices will be closed on Fridays.
