Summer Language Courses at TAMIU Offers Something for Everyone

Buon giorno. Parla Italiano? Good morning. Do you speak Italian?

If your answer is 'no,' and you would like to learn Italian or another foreign language, Texas A&M International University can help you through a wide range of courses it will offer this summer.

From June 2-July 24, TAMIU's International Language Institute will offer language courses in French, Italian, Spanish and German.

French I will be offered 6-8:15 p.m. Monday and Wednesday; Beginning Italian, 6-8:15 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; Beginning Spanish II, 6-8:15 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and Beginning German, 6-8:15 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.

Tuition for foreign language courses is $315 each and books are not included.

Also offered this summer, from June 2-July 24 will be morning and evening courses in English as a Second Language (ESL).

Morning courses will be offered in six levels: Beginner, Low Intermediate, High Intermediate, Low Advanced, and High Advanced.

Option I gives students the option of learning all components included in a level: listening, speaking, grammar, reading, and writing. This course will be offered Monday -Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Tuition is $880 per level.

In Option II, students have the alternative of learning only half the component of a level: listening, speaking and grammar. This course will take place Monday-Thursday, from 8:30 - 10:40 a.m. Tuition is $485.

Likewise, Option III only offers half a level but focuses on reading and writing. This class will be conducted Monday-Thursday, from 11 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Tuition is $485.

Evening ESL courses will focus on Conversation I, offered 7:30 -9:45 a.m. Monday and Wednesday; and Conversation II, offered 7:30 - 9:45 a.m., Tuesday and Thursday. Tuition is $315.

Registration for all summer language courses will be held May 12-30.

First time students who wish to enroll in ESL courses must first take the Michigan Placement Test (MPT) at the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, room 316.

University office hours during Spring Semester are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Effective May 15, office hours will be 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
