Zapata students interested in developing or brushing up on their reading and writing skills are invited to participate in the Kid's Summer Literacy Camp to be held this July.

A joint offering by Texas A&M International University's Eduardo Hinojosa Reading Research Center and Zapata County Independent School District, the Camp will allow students to practice techniques in reading and writing through motivating daily activities.

The Camp, scheduled from 1-4 p.m., July 7-17 at Central Elementary School, will be free and only open to students entering fifth grade.

Gloria Canseco, associate director of the Hinojosa Reading Research Center, said those interested in participating in the Camp should register early before the class begins so that they can be sure to secure a space.

"There are 11 spaces available in this camp and we urge students who are interested to sign up as soon as possible with the Hinojosa Reading Research Center," Canseco said.

For further information, please contact Canseco at 956.326.2924, e-mail gcanseco@tamiu.edu or visit offices located in Canseco Hall, room 122.

University summer office hours are 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
