Senior citizens can enrich their lives with stimulating classes and receive a special discount at Texas A&M International University this Fall.

Maria R. Rosillo, director of admissions, said senior citizens 65 or older may have up to six hours of tuition waived per semester. All other fees are charged.

"This means that senior citizens pay only $227 when they enroll for six semester hours of classes," Rosillo said.

She said those young at heart may choose to take a class as an audit, toward a degree program or simply for enrichment.

" We offer a wide variety of classes that include art, anthropology, geography, biology, English, history, dance and music," Rosillo said, "Currently, during Summer Session I, the oldest person attending classes on campus is 70. In Spring, the oldest student attending was 72. This goes to show you that it's never too late to start or continue your education at TAMIU."

In order to receive the discount, students interested must present a valid Texas driver's license or other valid ID showing date of birth. All students must follow admissions and registration procedures.

The continuation of early registration for Fall 2003 will be held July 21-Aug. 1. General Registration will be held Aug. 22. First class day is Aug. 25.

In order to guarantee a good selection of classes, students are advised to apply any time before Aug. 22.

For further information, please contact Maria Rosillo at the Office of Admissions at 326-2442, e-mail mrrosillo@tamiu.edu or visit offices located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, room 155D.

With State budget cuts, the University is observing a four-day, 10-hour a day schedule this summer with office hours from 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Offices are closed Fridays.
