TAMIU Plans 'Get Here' Open House July 9

Summer is a time of possibilities and Texas A&M International University is planning a special event to help students consider their higher education possibilities at TAMIU.

The University will host "Get Here: An Open House" on Wednesday, July 9 from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. in the new Student Center.

Executive director of enrollment management, Minita Ramírez, explained that the Open House is intended to help students, their friends and family to learn about the University, its resources, its programs and its future.

"This time of year students are wondering about what their next step in education will bring: where will they go, what will it cost, how can the get help, what can they expect and can they succeed. With this event, we're simply saying, 'Get Here,' and we'll get you the answers you need," Ramírez said.

She explained the University will have a variety of resources of information available to assist students, their friends or parents.

"We know that financing is always a major concern and will have financial aid counselors on hand who will be able to help students with online electronic filing. We'll also be able to assist with applications, talk about testing, review schedules, provide a look at student life at TAMIU, introduce faculty in various disciplines and even provide tours on request. We'll also have some great food," Ramírez explained.

She said that the event's atmosphere will be open and provide visitors with a true sense of what TAMIU is all about.

"It's an exciting time for the University. We're one of the fastest-growing regional universities, offer 54 undergraduate or graduate degrees, have an amazing faculty and our campus is growing daily. This fall, our athletics program expands to include men's and women's basketball and golf and our new Center for the Fine and Performing Arts will welcome our first students. Phase IV's new Science Building with a planetarium will break ground this month and we're looking forward to completion of the campus' Master Plan with Phase V funding," she said.

Ramírez said activities like "Get Here: A TAMIU Open House" help to bring the University's diverse possibilities to light for students of all ages.

"The University is attracting students from all over with quality programs, gifted faculty and a commitment to helping all students succeed. This activity can help to bring that message home, and provide critical answers at a critical time in a potential student's life. We're looking forward to meeting with these students, their friends, and family and sharing with them the University's diverse possibilities," she said.
