The Texas A&M International University Fall sports season begins this weekend with the women's and men's soccer teams hitting the field over the Labor Day weekend.

The TAMIU women's soccer team will open with two home games, facing Wayland Baptist on Saturday and Angelo State on Sunday. Both games are slated to kickoff at 1 p.m. at the Dustdevil Soccer Field on campus.

Sophomore Erika Alcaráz returns for TAMIU after leading the team with 12 goals in the team's inaugural season in 2002. She will be joined by six other returning letterwinners and 18 newcomers as the Dustdevils look to improve on last season's 3-16 record.

The TAMIU men's soccer team will open against Louisiana College on Saturday. The game against the NCAA Division III opponent will be played at Schreiner University in Kerrville, with kickoff slated for 4 p.m.

Returning to lead the charge for Dustdevils is sophomore Daniel Hermosillo, who was selected as the Red River Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year after finishing atop the Conference rankings in goals (19) and total points (45) last season. Sophomores José Macias (seven goals, 16 points) and Carlos Velázquez (three goals) also return after playing key roles in leading the Dustdevils to a 9-8-2 record in 2002.

TAMIU's other Fall sports teams will start the season next weekend, with the volleyball team opening at Texas Wesleyan on Sept. 5 and the men's and women's cross country teams opening at the Trinity Invitational on Sept. 6.
