TxCETP Scholarships Available to TAMIU, LCC Students

The Texas Collaborative for Excellence in Teacher Preparation (TxCETP) has made available eight scholarships to students at Texas A&M International University and two scholarships for students at Laredo Community College.

The scholarships support students working toward teacher certification in mathematics or science. They include TxCETP Teaching scholarships, which range from $250 to $1000 per semester and are renewable for up to six semesters, and Robert Noyce Scholarships, which may not exceed $7,500 per year and are renewable for up to two years.

General criteria for selection include completion of one year of college with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75, full time enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate science or mathematics teacher certification program (at least 3/4 time for Noyce Scholarship Program), financial need, U.S. citizenship and Texas residency or graduation from a Texas high school (for Noyce Scholarships, U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident alien), a personal statement of commitment to science or mathematics teaching, and a commitment to teaching at least two years in Texas schools.

The Scholarship application deadline has been extended to September 3 and completed applications should be submitted to the respective TAMIU or LCC Financial Aid offices.

The National Science Foundation provides funding for CETP projects and partners with faculty from science, mathematics, engineering and education from 10 partner institutions across the state, including TAMIU.

The TxCETP goals include course reform in science and mathematics, recruitment to science and mathematics teaching, support of preservice and novice teachers and the strengthening of systemic connections
