González Named Dean of TAMIU's College of Ed

Dr. Humberto González has been named dean of Texas A&M International University's College of Education.

Dr. Dan Jones, TAMIU provost and vice president for academic affairs, said Dr. González's choice came after an exhaustive search.

"We are delighted to announce Dr. González's unanimous selection by our search committee and are looking forward to his leadership of our College of Education. We have every confidence that his remarkable work experience, education and personal drive will do much to advance the College's and University's mission," Dr. Jones said.

Dr. González said he is looking forward to helping to lead the College of Education to even greater success.

"We have a truly gifted faculty and it has been my pleasure to roll up my sleeves to work with them and now my great honor to help lead our College to greater student success. We have multiple challenges before us, but also benefit from having the combined strengths of dedicated students, powerful community and regional partnerships and a University-wide commitment to our students' getting what they want out of life," Gonzalez explained.

González, who has been a member of the TAMIU faculty since 1996, holds his Ed.D. in educational administration from Texas A&M University. He also holds an M.S. in educational administration and an M.S. in music education, both from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. His B.M. in music education was also earned at TAMU-K.

The Laredo native also holds certifications in superintendence, special education, professional mid-management administration and provisional all-level music.

His educational career has included service as an elementary music teacher, head band director, director of special education, campus principal, superintendent and member of the Texas Education Agency's accreditation visiting team.

Additional experience includes military service for seven years with the Army National Guard of Texas.

Among awards he has received are the Outstanding Service Award as Regional Coordinator for the Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education, the St. Elizabeth Seton Award from the Paisano Girls Scouts and the Bronze Pelican Award from the Diocese of Corpus Christi.

His professional memberships include the Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Association of Community Schools, American Association of School Administrators, the Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education and Phi Delta Kappa.
