Registration is underway until Friday, Oct. 17 for the Intensive, English as a Second Language (ESL) courses offered at Texas A&M International University's International Language Institute (ILI).

María Dolores Orellano-Pérez, ILI director, said students are urged to register as soon as possible, especially those from Nuevo Laredo who need to process their visas in order to be able to take classes in Laredo.

Classes start Monday, Oct. 20, however, late registration will take place Oct. 20-24. No late registration fees will be assessed.

Classes will be offered in five levels, Beginners through Advanced, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Each full level consists of two sections: a listening, speaking, grammar section and a reading and writing section.

Tuition is $916 for the full level, but students are given the option of dividing the complete level into two half levels by taking first the listening, speaking and grammar component and then the reading and writing component. Tuition for each half level is $466.

Orellano-Pérez said that Intensive ESL classes provide students with an opportunity to learn the most widely spoken language in the world in the fastest way possible.

"The advantages of learning English are many. Whether you want to advance in your job or want to travel around the world, knowing English opens doors to new opportunities for everyone," Orellano-Pérez said, "In our courses at TAMIU, we offer personalized attention in small classes. Our intensive program immerses the students in an English speaking environment and they acquire the language skills much faster. Participants are sure to speak some English by the end of the year and those who already know some, will improve their skills dramatically."
