The Texas A&M International University 2003-2004 Western Hemispheric Trade Keynote Speaker Series will continue with a retrospective of the ten years of NAFTA and projections for the future.

Offered by the College of Business' Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade (CSWHT), the lecture will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27 in the Western Hemispheric Trade Building, room 111. The event is free and open to the public.

Daniel T. Griswold, associate director of the Cato Institute's Center for Trade Policy Studies in Washington D.C., will discuss "NAFTA at 10: Looking Back, Looking Ahead." He specializes in the economic effects of international trade and immigration.

Virginia Vincent, associate director of the CSWHT, said that attendees learn about the changes NAFTA has brought and will get an idea of what might be ahead in the future.

"Griswold's studies have focused on the trade deficit, imports and manufacturing, the World Trade Organization, congressional voting on trade, and Mexican immigration," explained Vincent, "His articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times and other major publications. He's testified before the Senate Finance and Commerce committees, the House Ways and Means and International Relations subcommittees, the U.S. Trade Deficit Review Commission and the U.S. International Trade Commission."

Vincent said the CSWHT plans on having a keynote speaker once a month from September 2003 through April 2004. All events will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 116, unless otherwise noted.
