A motivational speaker who by age 29 became a best-selling author will visit Texas A&M International University Monday, Oct. 20 to speak to students and the community.

Patrick Combs will present "Major in Success," from 3-4 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the new Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

Combs is internationally known as a best-selling author, a speaker, a television personality for PBS' Career Advantage, and as an expert on teaching students to get great jobs, even during difficult times.

He graduated from San Francisco State University, as a B student. He financed his college education managing a rock band. Soon after, he earned a prestigious and high paying job at Levi Strauss & Co.'s headquarters as one of their youngest managers ever.

At age 26, he walked away from corporate America to try to help students succeed. To make ends meet, he tested videogames for Electronic Arts. By 28, he was a published author, a fixture on the college speaking circuit and was sponsored by a Fortune 100 company to tour the top 100 schools in America.

He closed out his 20's with a guest-starring role on two television shows, Hard Copy and Real TV. His first book, "Major in Success," remains a best seller and the #1 advice book sold to students in the world.

He has appeared on many talk shows including The View, Good Morning America, and Montel Williams. He has also been interviewed on national television, one-on-one, by Barbara Walters and had his story told in more than 200 newspapers including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA Today.
