Classical Pianist Boris Feiner Performs Friday at TAMIU

Classical pianist Boris Feiner will perform in Laredo at a special piano recital at Texas A&M International University Friday, Nov, 7.

The recital will be held at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts' Recital Hall. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend this rare concert.

Feiner, originally from Kiev, Ukraine, will perform at TAMIU as part of the University's Distinguished Lecture Series. The Series aims to showcase the musical talent of TAMIU and local music educators through periodically scheduled performances.

Among works Feiner will interpret are the Bach and Petri chorale, "Sheep May Safely Graze from the Hunt/Birthday Cantata," and Mozart's "Sonata in B flat major, K. 333."

His repertoire also includes Granados' Goyesca, "Quejas, ó la Maja y el Ruiseñor"(Laments, or the Maja and the Nightingale); Ligeti's Etude No. 6, "Automne à Varsovie" (Autumn in Warsaw); and Prokofiev's "Sonata No. 6 in A major, Op 82."

Born in 1981, Feiner studied at the Ukrainian National Academy. He settled in Israel in 1991 and graduated with highest honors from the Arison and Thelma Yellin Schools of Arts and the Israel Conservatory of Music, studying piano with Hadassah Gonen. He recently completed a B.Mus. degree in piano and composition at the Rubin Academy at Tel-Aviv University, studying piano with professor Emanuel Krasovsky.

He was the Semi-Final Prize Winner at the 2003 Leeds International Piano Competition, Winner of the 2003 Vendome Regional and the 2001 Senigallia International Piano Competitions and a Contemporary Prize, Medal and Second Prize Winner at the

2002 Rina Sala Gallo International Competition. He was also the Medal and Third Prize Winner at the 2003 San Antonio International Competition and a recipient of the Diploma at the 2001 Tbilisi International Competition.

As a soloist, he has performed with Orchestra dei Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, the Marchigiana Philharmonic, the Raanana Symphonette, the Thelma Yellin Symphony Orchestra, the Young Israel Philharmonic, and the Israel Philharmonic in "Mafteakh" series.

He has performed at the Steinway Hall in London and recently participated in the 10th International Verbier Festival & Academy and master classes with Murray Perahia, John O'Conor, Dmitri Bashkirov and Claude Frank.

This year, in addition to his performance at TAMIU, he has been invited to perform throughout the United States, Israel, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Caribbean, Chile, and Morocco.
