TAMIU Celebrates Holiday Season with Performing Arts Events

Starting this week and continuing through the holiday season, Laredoans will be able to enjoy a variety of performing arts events taking place at Texas A&M International University.

Following are the fine arts events scheduled at TAMIU for the remainder of the year.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21 -- TAMIU's Department of Fine and Performing Arts will host the 2003 Fall Dance Concert Friday and Saturday, at 8 p.m. in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact 326.2625.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22 --TAMIU's Department of Fine and Performing Arts will host the 2003 Fall Dance Concert Friday and Saturday, at 8 p.m. in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact 326.2625.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23 -- The first 2003 - 2004 Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra Concert will be held at Texas A&M International University at 4 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. Subtitled "Crossing the Atlantic," this is the first in a series of musical travels around the world. In this concert the orchestra performs familiar music from the U.S. (including "New York, New York"), Finland, Norway, England (the ever popular "Pomp & Circumstance") and Ireland. The concert also marks the opening concert of Brendan Townsend's tenure as music director of the LPO. For more information, please contact 326.2039.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25 -- The TAMIU Symphonic Band will perform at 8 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. For more information, please contact Dr. Michael Stone at 326.2654.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25 --TAMIU Flute in Concert will feature solos and ensemble pieces from the flute studio of Dr. Susan Berdahl at 12 p.m. (noon) at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3 --The TAMIU Chamber Ensemble will hold its Chamber Music Recital with strings, flute and voice at 8 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. The concert will feature the works of composers such as Boccherini, Mozart, Beethoven and a special arrangement of Schubert's Ave Maria. The ensemble will also perform the Christmas carol, 'What Child is This?' FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5 -- TAMIU's Classical Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Gilberto D. Soto, will ring in the holiday season on a melodic note during its annual 'Guitarras de Navidad' (Guitars of Christmas) concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.
