TAMIU Presenters at Top IT Event Conference

Two Texas A&M International University administrators were key presenters at the Educause 2003 Conference, the premiere information technology (IT) event in higher education, held in Anaheim, Calif. recently.

Dr. David Barrow-Britton, director of the TAMIU office of educational technology and outreach, and Mario Pena, University webmaster, were joined by Morgan W. Geddie of the University of Houston's Conrad N. Hilton College for a presentation on "Eliminating Accessibility Barriers in Distance Learning."

The seminar demonstrated how some simple measures in the initial stages of course development can result in Level One compliance and facilitate the use of screen readers, visual enhancements, captioning, and other tools.

The Conference attracted over 6,500 IT professionals.

Attendees chose from more than 140 track sessions, 20 corporate presentations, 40 preconference seminars, 100 poster sessions, featured speakers, special interest group meetings, current issues roundtables, and other activities that highlighted current developments and offered a glimpse of what lies ahead for the transformative role of technology in education.

More than 190 technology-related businesses-including Blackboard, Datatel, IBM, Oracle, PeopleSoft, SCT, and VeriSign-were on hand to exhibit and conduct demonstrations, workshops, and presentations.
