LPO Bows 24th Season with New Partners, And Vow to 'Take on the World'

With a powerful collaboration, new ideas and a new music director, the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra is ready to embark on its 24th Season with a musical world tour dubbed "Take on the World."

Brendan Townsend, the new LPO music director and conductor announced that the Orchestra is excited about its 24th season and looking forward to presenting concerts that bring the world's music home to Laredo.

"Throughout the season, we'll be visiting the great musical capitals. Each concert brings to life the sounds and spirit of different cultures and countries, and is sure to delight audiences of every taste," Townsend said.

LPO Board president Theresa Nimchan explained that the powerful collaboration between Laredo Community College and Texas A&M International University will enable the LPO to reach a larger audience.

"Thanks to the collaboration between LCC and TAMIU, the LPO can truly reach everyone with an interest in music and the arts on both sides of our border, enriching our communities and our shared lives.

"Through this innovative collaboration, we can continue to strive for excellence as we educate and entertain all age groups, and incorporate all aspects of the arts in our communities," she explained.

The Season Schedule is as follows:

Sunday, Nov. 23, 4 p.m. - "Crossing the Atlantic" at the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts' Recital Hall.

Saturday, Jan. 31, 7:30 p.m. - "Wanders in Europe" at the LCC Martinez Fine Arts Building

Sunday, April 4 - "Springtime" at the LCC Martinez Fine Arts Building.

Sunday, May 16 - "Lite Classics" at the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.

In addition, admission to a forthcoming series, "RISING STARS," which will feature brilliant young musicians from around the world, will be free. The first "Rising Star" concert takes place at the Martinez Fine Arts Building at Laredo Community College on January 10th, 2004.

Season tickets to all four concerts are $70 for adults and $40 for seniors. Single tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for seniors.
