Lt. Governor David Dewhurst will provide the commencement address for Texas A&M International University's Fall Commencement Exercises on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. on the Killam Library Plaza.

Over 290 students are candidates for undergraduate or graduate degrees to be awarded by the University's three colleges and represent the largest graduating class in the University's history.

Before being elected Lt. Governor, Dewhurst was Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office. He also served as chairman of the Governor's Task Force on Homeland Security, where he helped to develop recommendations to make Texas a safer state.

An early developer of the electric co-generation industry, Dewhurst earned a reputation as an innovative and successful businessman. He has been a long- time community leader in his hometown of Houston, where he served on civic and charitable boards. He also breeds and raises purebred cattle and is an active team roper.

Marshalls for the ceremony are Dr. Cecily Cornelius-White and Dr. Ramon Alaniz. Faculty banner carriers are Dr. Tom Vaughan, Richard Anderson, Todd Farmer and Rose Saldivar.
