TAMIU's Momayezi Named Regents Professor by TAMUS

Dr. Nasser Momayezi, dean of Texas A&M International University's College of Arts and Sciences and professor of political science, was recently named Regents' Professor by the Board of Regents of The Texas A&M University System.

The annual award is the highest conferred upon System faculty, and recognizes sustained outstanding accomplishments in teaching, scholarship and service.

Dr. Momayezi will receive a commemorative plaque, a medal to be worn with regalia and a stipend of $3,000 per year for three years.

Since TAMIU began nominating faculty for this honor, the A&M University System has recognized Drs. Jim Giermanski, Jerry Thompson, Juan Lira, and now Momayezi.

Momayezi's many accomplishments include serving as chair of TAMIU's largest department before receiving tenure. He has been a member of the University's faculty since 1994. His research interests include international relations, Middle Eastern Politics, minority politics and democratization. He holds his Ph.D. in Political Science from Texas Tech University and his MA from Eastern New Mexico State University. He earned his BA from the National University of Iran.

University offices will reopen on Monday, Jan. 5 at 8 a.m.

Registration for the Spring Semester 2004 will be underway from Jan. 5 until General Registration on Friday, Jan. 16 in the Student Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Spring Semester classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Late registration will continue through 5 p.m., Jan. 26.
