Want to help people enroll and succeed in college? If so, the State of Texas' "College for Texans" campaign needs your help.

Natalie Woodward-Correa, a native Laredoan and representative of the Campaign, will be in Laredo on Tuesday, Jan. 20 to conduct a "train the trainer" workshop from 9 a.m. - 12 noon in the Texas A&M International University Student Center Room 231.

The workshops are intended for public school teachers and staff, representatives of community-based organizations, and others interested in helping students and their parents to know how to prepare academically and financially for college.

The workshops are free of charge and recipients will receive free materials, as well as guidance on how to use them, in order to help reach out to students and parents. The materials include presentation kits with age-appropriate activities designed for different activities, such as elementary school, middle school and high school students and their parents.
The workshop is one of 25 such workshops planned across the State for January and early February.

The Texas Legislature authorized the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to carry out the "College for Texans" campaign, which kicked off in late 2002, as part of the State's "Closing the Gaps by 2015" higher education plan.

The plan's first goal is to enroll an additional 300,000 academically prepared students - beyond the 200,000 additional students expected based on past trends - by 2015. The second goal is to increase by 50 percent the number of certificates and degrees awarded by Texas by 2015.
