TAMIU 'Voices' Series Features Writer Tom Miller March 4

The Texas A&M International University Voices in the Monte Writers Series will feature non-fiction writer and editor Tom Miller on Thursday, March 4. Miller has been writing about the American Southwest and Latin America for more than three decades. His book Jack Ruby's Kitchen Sink won the prestigious Lowell Thomas Award for Best Travel Book of 2001. Thursday's Talk on Craft at 11 a.m. and reading and book signing at 7:30 p.m. will take place in Bob Bullock Hall, room 101. The events are free and open to the public.

At 11 a.m., Miller will present a Talk on Craft and will discuss his experience as an author and editor. He has the benefit of excellent editing from New York's publishing world and will provide advice on structure, flow and vocabulary, plus tips on other ideas such as getting started and knowing when to bring your writing to a soft landing.

He will offer a public reading from some of his work at 7:30 p.m. He has written for The New York Times, LIFE and Rolling Stone, among other outlets and has published several books including The Panama Hat Trail, Trading with the Enemy and On the Border. He is also the editor of Writing on the Edge, which collects some of the best writing about the Mexican border from the last 100 years.

The Voices In The Monte Writers Series provides students, members of the University's service community, and the public an opportunity to visit with local, regional and national writers who share their personal vision of writing and finding their voice. The Series is made possible by funding provided by TAMIU and a Title V Grant.

Writing Center hours are 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. The Center is closed on Saturdays but open on Sundays from 2-6 p.m.
