Social workers wishing to learn more about the ethics involved in providing social work services to children are invited to participate in a workshop at Texas A&M International University Friday, March 26.

The workshop, titled, "Children, Ethics, and Social Work Practice," will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall, room 115.

Tuition for the workshop is $45 and lunch will be included. Those interested in registering may contact TAMIU's Office of Special Programs at 326-2765.

Workshop presenter Dr. Dennis Haynes is the newly appointed Department of Social Work Chair at The University of Texas at San Antonio. He previously served as the Master of Social Work Program Director at The University of Texas at Austin.

The session will help participants consider the unique challenges in providing social work services to children.

Participants, through the use of specific case examples, will identify ethical dilemmas that arise in social work practice. Based on the NASW Code of Ethics, guidelines for resolving ethical dilemmas will be explored through the multiple perspectives of children, families, practitioners and administrators.

All attendees will receive a certificate of workshop completion and three social work continuing education units at the end of the session.

Dr. Haynes received a Ph.D. in social work from Florida State University and an MSW from California State University, Fresno. He earned his bachelor's degree in family relations from Brigham Young University.

His interests include values and ethics, religion and spirituality, international social work, child abuse prevention, and university and community collaboration. He has more than 20 years of varied social work practice experience and has provided service in both public and non-profit child welfare agency settings.
