2003 - 2004 Western Hemispheric Trade Keynote Speaker Series Continues April 11

The Texas A&M International University 2003-2004 Western Hemispheric Trade Keynote Speaker Series will continue Thursday, April 1, examining the changes in demography in South Texas.

Offered by the College of Business Administration's Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade (CSWHT), the lecture will take place at 6 p.m. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Building, room 116. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Steve Murdock, State of Texas Demographer, will discuss "The Impact of Demographic Change on the Texas Border."

Virginia Vincent, associate director of the CSWHT, said that attendees will learn how the change in population has changed Texas, and what could be possible in the future.

"Murdock has authored more than nine books on demographic and social change. He has written more than 80 technical articles and book chapters and over 100 research monographs, reports and professional papers on related topics. His work in demographic studies for the state led to his being named one of the 'Fifty Most Influential Texans' by Texas Business. He has been awarded the Excellence in Research Award from the Rural Sociological Society," she noted.

Vincent said the CSWHT keynote speaker series will conclude at the end of the month with "Economic Integration of the Americas," presented by Dr. Chandler Stolp, Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, University of Texas.

Vincent explained the Series was created to meet the needs of the community.

"The Series is now in its third year and has evolved from an occasional series to a monthly lecture series aimed at shedding light through expert lectures on the many aspects of trade in our hemisphere. The Series presents practical and targeted lectures imparted by distinguished leaders, recognized experts and outstanding scholars in the trade and international business arenas," she said.
