A special orientation meeting for potential students in Texas A&M International University's collaborative Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with Texas A&M University will be held on Thursday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. in Student Center 231.

Dr. Juan Lira, professor of education and program coordinator for TAMIU's College of Education, said the meeting should give students an opportunity to gather all information needed to consider applying for program consideration.

"We'll be joined by Dr. Dennie Smith, chair of the Texas A&M University department of Teaching, Learning and Culture, in an informative discussion of the collaborative doctoral program we will be offering here," Dr. Lira said.

Lira said specific attention will be focused on the program's content; benefits; eligibility criteria for applying; application process including interview; admission procedures; how courses will be delivered; tuition and fees, competitive funding support; residency requirements and other important issues.

The collaborative Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction is the first collaborative Ph.D. offered by the University's College of Education. The program welcomed its first cohort in 1999 and candidates will soon be graduating. The College of Education has also launched an additional collaborative Ph.D. in Educational Administration, also with TAMU.
