University Gets International Honor Society in Education

Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), the International Honor Society in Education, now has a charter in place at Texas A&M International University.

In ceremonies earlier this month at the TAMIU Student Center, the new Chapter was launched by Dr. Sherry Field, KDP vice president. Chapter initiates included 47 University undergraduates, graduates and members of the College of Education faculty.

Faculty initiates included Dr. Ronald J. Anderson, Dr. Humberto Gonzalez, Dr. Barbara Greybeck, Dr. Juan R. Lira, Dr. Cathy Guerra Sakta, Chapter sponsor; Dr. Miroslava Vargas, Jennifer Coronado, Juanita R. Lira and Thelma G. Solis.

Graduate initiates were Olga A. Cantu, Lydia E. Casarez, Leticia G. Cruz, Leonor E. Garza, Virginia C. Goldsmith, Cecilia Gonzalez-Santini, Anita D. Landin-Garza, Araceli M. Lopez, Dalia Martinez, Margarita Quiroz, Rosenda Ruiz, Rebecca Salinas, Laura A. Velez Santana, Dolores B. Villarreal and Catherine G. Zapata.

Undergraduate initiates included Maria M. Beltran, Ana Laura Botello, Lora A. Burleson, Maria G. Cantu, Concepcion F. Carranza, Veronica Castellano, Jodie Cordova, Kristy De La Rosa, Evangelina M. Fields, Abby G. Garcia, Rosa M. Hernandez, Alma L. Lopez, Gabriella J. Mancera, Lilia V. Martinez, Sandra E. Moncada, Alicia E. Morales, Gabriela Ortiz, Cristina Palomares, San Juanita M. Perez, Cecilia Ramirez, Seema S. Rocha, Lluvia J. Rodriguez, Lupita Romero, Norma L. Vera and Sylvia Y. Villarreal.

KDP's membership is limited to the top 20 percent of those entering the field of education as well as award-winning and outstanding practicing educators. There are 56,000 members in 550 university, college, alumni and affiliate chapters in the United States and abroad.

It was founded in 1911 at the University of Illinois and organized to recognize excellence in education. Invited members must exhibit ideals of scholarship, high personal standards and promise in teaching and allied fields.
