Students weighing their summer and Fall higher education opportunities are the target of a special Texas A&M International University event scheduled Thursday, June 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Student Center.

That's when the University will host "Get Here: An Open House" to help students get answers to their higher education questions.

Minita Ramírez, executive director of enrollment management, explained that the Open House, now in its second year, is intended to help students, their friends and family to learn about the University, its resources, its programs and its future.

"In the past two weeks, thousands of students have completed their high school education. Many are still considering what their next step in higher education will be, how much it will cost, what help is available, what they can expect and how they can succeed. 'Get Here' is designed to offer these students and their parents a one-stop opportunity to consider TAMIU. With this event, we're simply saying, 'Get Here,' and we'll get you the answers you need," Ramírez said.

She explained the University will have a variety of resources of information available, including applying, financing and living the new higher education life.

"We know that financing is always a major concern and will have financial aid counselors on hand who will be able to help students with online electronic filing. We'll also be able to assist with applications, talk about testing, review schedules, provide a look at student life at TAMIU, introduce faculty in various disciplines and even provide tours on request. We'll also have some great food," Ramírez explained.

She said the 'Get Here' atmosphere focuses on giving visitors a true sense of what TAMIU is all about.

"This is an exciting time for this University. We're one of the fastest-growing regional universities in the state, offer 57 undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degrees and have an amazing faculty and growing campus. Athletics are well established, our Center for the Fine and Performing Arts offers new opportunities and the new Science Building with an amazing planetarium is nearing completion. We're also about to begin Phase V expansion," she said.

Ramírez said outreach activities like "Get Here: A TAMIU Open House" help bring the message of the University's infinite possibilities home for both students and parents.
