TAMIU Launches Renewed tamiu.edu

Point. Click. You're at home at TAMIU!

That's the focus of a redesigned Texas A&M International University web page that serves as the University's electronic portal to the world.

Launched this past week, the redesigned web page includes a variety of new features designed to streamline access to a rich variety of University information and resources.

University president Dr. Ray Keck explained the relevance of the initiative.

"Since October of 2002, our University web site has attracted over 72 million hits, an average of 115,000 hits per day. It's a primary resource for information about our campus, students, faculty and programs. Our alumni around the world, from Argentina to Finland and Mexico to Morocco, check in on their alma mater. It's a dynamic part of the University's image and identity, so we wanted to create a vibrant, visual and accessible experience that frames the University, attests to its mission and works to increase visits and audiences for the University," Dr. Keck explained.

Among new features on the web site are a Google-enhanced search engine; a new navigation menu that logically groups information; an enhanced calendar that includes Academic, Athletics, Arts, and Community events; an expanded News feature; an electronic postcard that offers a glimpse at TAMIU's campus and life; special hot banners that link to current events; expandable drop down links; a virtual campus tour and a dynamic presentation of the University's integrated marketing theme, "What Do You Want Out of Life?"

A team including the University's Office of Public Affairs and Information Services, the Office of Educational Technology Outreach and Computer Telecommunications Services designed the new site. A dedicated committee that included faculty, staff, students and alumni assisted the team's efforts.

Special effort was made to create an accessible home page that meets or exceeds 508 compliance for users with disabilities.
