Texas A&M International University College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Fine and Performing Arts and MacMillan/McGraw-Hill Publishing will host a free Elementary Music Educators Workshop for Laredo Independent School District teachers on Monday, September 6 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Black Box Theatre.

Dr. Gilberto Soto, associate professor and chair of the Department, said the workshop will focus on areas such as music methodology, movement, songs and bilingual music education.

"We will have lectures presented by Brandon Harvey and yours truly, and a lunch reception is also planned. At the end of the workshop, the educators will receive a package from us with all the information received during the workshops, plus a CD with the songs used during that day," explained Soto.

He said any elementary music teachers from other school districts who are interested in attending should contact him for more information.

"We're very excited to be able to provide this workshop free of charge to help enrich area music teachers and help improve the lives of our children," said Soto.
