TAMIU's Killam Library Improves Interlibrary Loan Structure

Texas A&M International University's Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library is joining the majority of major universities across America this Fall with the introduction of ILLiad, an interlibrary loan software.

Rodney Webb, Killam Library director, explained the new program would make requesting books and articles from other libraries much easier.

"ILLiad software is the program of choice for most major universities in the U.S. because of its ease of use, both for the library patron and for the library staff," explained Webb.

He said starting this Fall all interlibrary loan requests should be made online at http://illiad.tamiu.edu.

"First time users must read the user agreement, and register. University students will use their Campus-Wide Identification Number (CWIN), located on their OneCard, and staff and faculty will use their nine digit Universal Identification Number. Everyone will need a valid e-mail address," explained Webb, "Thereafter, patrons will only have to enter their user name and password, and a variety of electronic forms will be available to them. In addition, they can view or change previous requests, download electronically received articles or renew currently checked out items."

Webb said he expects patrons to find the change a great improvement over the old paper system and will allow for more accurate requests, since the library staff will no longer have to decipher the handwriting of others.

To make the process as smooth as possible, Webb recommended all University staff know their UIN number, which every TAMIU employee has, and is available through Human Resources. Students should be sure to get their OneCards, the new student identification card.
