Texas A&M International University's College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Fine and Performing Arts will host a Faculty Musical Extravaganza on Monday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Tickets, priced at $20, will support the Student Scholarship Fund. Students with student identification will be admitted for free.

Faculty members Dr. Gilberto Soto, Dr. Fritz Gechter, Dr. Susan Berdahl, Brendan Townsend, Jennifer Clark, Suzanne Ramo, Dr. Mazias De Oliveira, and John Reimund will perform a wide variety of pieces. Dr. Soto will perform the self-authored guitar piece "Rio Grande Suite." Other music includes a duet from Guiseppe Verdi's La Traviata, and Franz Liszt's Concert Etude No. 39, "Un Sospiro."

Brendan Townsend, assistant professor and co-organizer of the event, said the evening would include something for everyone.

"The music covers everything from Dr. Soto's original composition to chamber music, composed by Beethoven; and Drs. Berdahl and Gechter and myself will be playing a jazzy 20th century composition. There's something for all tastes," said Townsend.

Dr. Gechter, co-organizer and associate professor, said the evening will be a wonderful way for the community to support the arts and enjoy the talent of the professors.

"Our world-class faculty is excited to be giving their time and talent to such a worthy cause. In order to sustain the tremendous growth in student interest in pursuing the arts at TAMIU, we need the community's support. Through the proceeds generated this evening, more students can study at this wonderful University. I encourage everyone to come hear some beautiful music in the fabulous Recital Hall," said Gechter.
