2004-2005 Sánchez Lecture Series Continues Thursday, Oct. 21

The 2004-2005 A.R. Sánchez Sr. Distinguished Lecture Series, presented by Texas A&M International University's College of Arts and Sciences, will continue with a timely discussion of "The Latino Vote in the United States," presented by Dr. Rodolfo O. de la Garza.

Funded by the A.R. Sánchez Foundation, the lectures series is free and open to the public. Each lecture will take at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Dr. de la Garza is professor of political science at Columbia University and Vice President for Research at the Tomás Rivera Policy Institute, and has published Sending Money Home: Hispanic Remittances and Community Development and Awash in the Mainstream: Latinos and the 1996 Election.

His research focus is on the intersection of political behavior, public policy and ethnic, particularly Latino, politics. He directs studies on immigration incorporation and Latino voting patterns, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Committee on the Status of Latinos in the Profession of the American Political Science Association in 1993.

In addition, he is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations and was named one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics by Hispanic magazine in 1998.

He received his Ph.D. from University of Arizona in political science.

March 29, 2005 - Dr. Kenneth Miller "Finding Darwin's God."

April 12, 2005 - Dr. Firouz Naderi "Exploring Mars."
