Benefit Performances of 'Art' Come to TAMIU Friday, Saturday

What is art? What does it mean to be a true friend and a mentor? Find out how these two questions are related as guest actors perform "Art" at the Sam Johnson Black Box Theater at Texas A&M International University's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.

Although the Tony Award-winning play appears to be a discussion on the notion of modern art, it also examines the dynamics of the roles of the three characters. "Art" explores the challenges of a 15-year friendship after a man, Serge, buys a white painting for a large sum of money.

Former Laredoan Phil Kazen, John O'Neill and Bill Gundry star in the short play directed by Jerry Watson. Written originally in French by playwright Yazmina Reza, and later translated into English, it debuted in Paris, 1994.

The run-through starts at 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21 at the Sam Johnson Black Box Theater.

Admission for the play is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Call 326.2654 or 326.2175 to purchase tickets in advance. Ticket sales benefit the Department of Fine and Performing Arts.
