For the first time, KLRN, in partnership with Texas A&M International University, is bringing its Women's Health Conference to Laredo on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the TAMIU Student Center from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The KLRN Laredo Women's Health Conference is designed to empower women with knowledge to help them make informed choices about their health. Diane Gates will chair the event, which was made possible in part by a generous gift from the Lamar Bruni Vergara Trust.

Conference admission is $30 and includes a full day of informative speakers and breakout sessions, health screenings, a continental breakfast, a formal luncheon and a gift bag.

To purchase tickets, call KLRN at (210) 270-9000 or visit klrn.org. Tickets may also be purchased in Laredo at any International Bank of Commerce location.

During the breakout sessions, national and local speakers will address women's health topics including skin care, osteoporosis, exercise, heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer, health & beauty, financial health and more.

One of the most recognized authorities on women's health in the Spanish-speaking world will be visiting Laredo to speak at the conference.

Sylvia Jimenez, M.D., is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon, author of the weekly column Solo Mujeres and creator of the Web site www.solomujeres.com. Solo Mujeres is syndicated in The Laredo Morning Times and 140 Spanish language newspapers worldwide.

Translation service will be available for Dr. Jimenez's keynote speech. Children's activities (age two to grade six only) will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration is required. To reserve space for children, call 326-2450.
