Texas A&M International University's "Voices in the Monte" Writers Series continues with poet Marian Haddad, Thursday, April 14. Her "Talk on Craft" will be held at 11 a.m. in Student Center 236, and she will present a public reading of her work at 7:30 p.m. in Bullock Hall 103.

Haddad's first collection of poetry, Somewhere Between Mexico and a River Called Home was published in 2004 by Pecan Grove Press. Her work has also appeared in a variety of literary journals including: The Texas Observer, Rio Grande Review, Sin Fronteras/Writers Without Borders, Dark Horses, and San Diego Writers' Monthly. Haddad's poetry has also been published in anthologies including: Stories From Where We Live (Milkweed Editions), Is This Forever or What? (Greenwillow Books), Arab American and Diaspora Literature (Interlink Publishing), and Direct My Pen Eastward: Arab-American Women's Voices on Writing (Greenwood/Praeger).

An El Paso native of Syrian ancestry, Haddad lives in San Antonio and works as a freelance writer, manuscript editor and adjunct creative writing instructor at Northwest Vista College and Our Lady of the Lake University. She has done graduate work in prose poetry at Emerson College and in philosophy at Notre Dame on a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) fellowship.

"Voices in the Monte" is intended to provide an opportunity for students and the public to visit with local, regional and national writers who share their personal vision of writing and finding their voice. The Series encourages interaction among people from the University, the city and the surrounding area with visiting writers. It is made possible by funding provided by TAMIU and a Title V Grant.
