Harpsichordist Sylvia Hazlerig Presents Concert March 28

Spend an evening at Texas A&M International University and enjoy a concert by former Laredoan and harpsichordist Sylvia Hazlerig, Monday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

This event is free and open to the public.

Hazlerig will perform "Four Homages to Bach," a piece she composed specifically to perform with members of the University faculty - Dr. Gilberto Soto, chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts on guitar; Dr. Susan Berdahl, assistant professor of music on flute; and Jennifer Clark-Cahill, assistant professor on viola. She will also interpret the works of composers including William Byrd, Henry Purcell, Francois Couperin, Johann Pachelbel, Georg Philipp Telemann, Pietro Domenico Paradisi, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Domenico Scarlatti and Johann Sebastian Bach.

The former Laredoan was born in Wyoming, but spent most of her life in Texas. She holds a master of arts degree in music literature from Central Missouri State University and a bachelor of music composition and theory degree from the University of North Texas. She also formed part of the music and dance department faculty at Laredo Community College for 19 years, where she taught piano, strings, music theory, music appreciation, and music literature. She retired in 1997 and moved to Colorado, where she remains active as a performer and composer.

Hazlerig will also present a brownbag lecture on "Women Composers" as part of TAMIU's celebration of Women's History Month on Tuesday, March 29 at noon in the CFPA Sam Johnson Black Box Theater.
