God and Evolution Subject of Next A.R. Sánchez Lecture at TAMIU

From concerns regarding evolution to creation, Dr. Kenneth Miller will address a wide range of thought-provoking questions in today's society during the third installation of Texas A&M International University's 2005 A.R. Sánchez Sr. Distinguished Lecture Series Tuesday, March 29, at 7 p.m in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Admission to the lecture is free and open to the public.

Dr. Miller is a professor of biology at Brown University. While his research involves problems of structure and function in biological membranes, his principle interest is the public's understanding of evolution.

He has defended the scientific integrity of evolution in numerous articles, has answered challenges such as "intelligent design," and has debated a number of anti-evolutionists.

Author of Finding Darwin's God: A Scientist's Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution, Miller analyses the religious implications of evolution. He strives to show that the theory of evolution does not diminish the belief in a creator.

"I do not believe, even for an instant, that Darwin's vision has weakened or diminished the sense of wonder and awe that one should feel in confronting the magnificence and diversity of the living world. Rather, to a person of faith it should enhance their sense of the Creator's majesty and wisdom," Miller said.

His work is a bridge between evolutionists who demand an agnostic or atheistic belief and creationists who deny evolution.

Miller received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado.

The A. R. Sánchez Sr. Distinguished Lecture Series honors A.R. Sánchez Sr. (1916-1992), a celebrated member of the Laredo community known for his philanthropic efforts, work ethic and generosity.

All lectures are held in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts' Recital Hall at 7 p.m.
