Confirming its commitment to student success, Texas A&M International University has named Minita Ramírez its new associate vice president for Student Success.

Ramírez, most recently TAMIU's executive director of enrollment management, will now have responsibility for Enrollment Management, Admissions, the Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, Community College Outreach Program and Campus Housing. To ensure smooth integration with the University's Title V and TRIO programs, the position is part of Academic Affairs under TAMIU provost and vice president Dr. Dan Jones.

In making the announcement, Dr. Ray Keck, TAMIU president, said Ramirez' promotion reaffirms the University's commitment to students and recognizes her leadership and success in the University's recruitment and enrollment programs.

"Minita and her staff have in recent years very successfully helped the University to become a regional university of choice. I am confident that her leadership will continue to impress us and that our commitment to students is well-served by her promotion," Dr. Keck said.

Dr. Jones concurred, noting the University's focus on students is complete.

"This is what we are about. All of our efforts must be focused on student success and providing all students with the resources they need to be successful. For example, we just launched our focused effort to create a campus culture that values and celebrates successful student writing with our 'Write On, TAMIU!' initiative. Our creation of Minita's new position makes clear our commitment to our students," Dr. Jones said.

Ramírez, a Laredo native, joined the University in 2001. She was previously part of the United Independent School District's Project Millennium and is also a  former teacher with the Laredo Independent School  District.

She holds a BS in Secondary Education from Texas A&M International  University and an MS in School Administration from Texas A&M  University-Kingsville. She is at work on a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Capella University.

Ramirez said her commitment is to all students.

"I'm committed to  educating students of all ages in the Laredo  community and look forward to helping them realize their higher education goals," she said.
