TAMIU's Thompson Wins Historical Book Award

Dr. Jerry Thompson, Texas A&M International University Regent's professor of history, recently won the 2004 Kate Broocks Bates Award for the best book on Texas history up to 1900.

Dr. Thompson's award-winning book Civil War and Revolution on the Rio Grande Frontier was published by the Texas State Historical Association. The text, co-authored with Lawrence T. Jones III, is rich with photographs of the Civil War period in the border region.

The award is given annual for significant historical research on any phase of Texas history up to 1900. The winner receives a certificate and $3,000. Dr. Thompson was presented his awards at the annual Texas State Historical Association awards luncheon in Fort Worth.
