Chancellor McTeer to Provide Address for TAMIU Spring Graduates Saturday, May 14

Robert D. McTeer, Chancellor for The Texas A&M University System, will provide the Commencement Address for candidates for graduation at Spring 2005 Commencement Exercises at Texas A&M International University Saturday, May 14 at 8 p.m. on the University's plaza.

Candidates for  undergraduate and graduate degrees number 365 with 306 undergraduate and 59 graduate degrees scheduled to be awarded.

McTeer was named chancellor of The Texas A&M University System on Nov. 4, 2004.

Prior to joining the A&M System, McTeer had a 36-year career with the U.S. Federal Reserve System, including almost 14 years as president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.  As a reserve bank president, he also served on the Fed's principal policy-making committee, the Federal Open Market Committee.

He joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Va., as an economist in August 1968.  Shortly thereafter, he became editor of that bank's Economic Review and other publications, as well as administrative officer over the research department.  In 1971, he became assistant to the bank's president and first vice president in the areas of policy formulation, speech writing and public affairs.  He was selected as head of the Richmond Fed's Baltimore branch in March 1980, where he served until he was recruited to the position of president and CEO of the Dallas Fed in February 1991.

A native of Georgia, McTeer received a Ph.D. in economics and a B.B.A. with honors, both from the University of Georgia, also a land-grant university.

The A&M System is composed of nine universities, seven state agencies and a statewide health science center.  The universities have about 100,000 students combined, including approximately 45,000 at Texas A&M University in College Station, the state's first public institution of higher education and the land-grant university of Texas.  The agencies, all of which perform agriculture- and engineering-related research, service and continuing education, serve all parts of Texas and beyond.
